Birth of the brave little mockingbird – Developing the logo
This is the story behind our logo, the story of the brave little mockingbird.
What does it stand for?
brave – stands for the empowerment of the individual. The pride in our uniqueness and the courage to stand up for it.
little – stands for the small things that matter. The connection to the child deep inside of us.
mockingbird – the mockingbird is a small bird famous for its strong voice. Naturally courageous it is widely associated with an innocent and curious character.
So when we think of the brave little mockingbird, we think of a fairy tale – a story about a small bird exploring the world with the curiosity of a child. It is this innocence that inspires our fashion. The experience of a child getting dressed, free from any conventions, following the pure joy of self-expression.
Additionally we love the rhythm of these three words combined. Making it altogether a beautiful way to name brand that aims to expand the meaningfulness of fashion.
From idea to logo
With the idea of this fairy tale character in mind we started the design process. The aim was to capture the innocent and courageous spirit of the bird in a simple logo that we could apply in a playful manner.
Step 1 – Starting point
Step 2 – Initial brainstorming
In the next step we went into extensive brainstorming, developing numerous ideas for potential logos.
Step 3 – Bringing in feedback
From the ideas developed in these brainstorming sessions we selected the three most promising options. With these three options we went out to gather feedback, asking people about their associations with the three sketches.
Step 4 – Refining the logo
Feedback showed us that people had a strong preference towards the second option. Still the second option was often referred to as heavy and sleepy, too. Based on this input we started refining the logo feature by feature. It took us many further iterations, until we found the sketch that felt intuitively right. After some final touches we had finally arrived at our logo.
Step 5 – Integrating the logo into our designs
The final challenge comes with the design of our clothes. Here again we rely on external feedback when deciding on how to integrate the logo. The results from our surveys have strongly supported a subtle but playful use of the brave little mockingbird.
Step 6 – When the mockingbird meets fabric
The last couple of weeks we have been working extensively on our first prototypes. This is where the mockingbird finally gets to meet the fabric. Further we are currently planning our first image campaign.
